Today, we begin a 7-week series that focuses on marriage and family and God’s design for both. The purpose of the series is to help us know God’s ideal for our marriages and our families and to know that God’s ideal is possible...if we follow His plan.
The world is looking for more out of marriage. Unfortunately, they’re looking in the wrong places and for the wrong things.
Genesis 2:19-24 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Truth is, our unrealistic expectations leave us unfulfilled, angry and discouraged. This is not God’s design for the family. God’s design for the family is a perfect relationship that allows us to experience God’s best in everything. In order for that to happen, there are some things that we need to leave behind!
Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother...

Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
II Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Philippians 3:12-14 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
