What Marriage Is Supposed To Be!

Gen. 2:21   And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.  22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.  23   And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman,  Because she was taken out of Man.”  24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

1. He Defined It!
   Matt. 19:4   And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
   THIS VERSE DEFINES MARRIAGE AS A GOD ORDAINED LIFELONG COVENANT BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN.
   
2. He Designed It!
1. Strength - “and the two shall become one flesh’  vs. 5

2Cor. 6:14   Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what   fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with   darkness?

2. Companionship - Discipleship

   Gen. 2:18a   And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone;  

3. Support - Equal, to support one another!

Gen. 2:18b ...I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

4. Mission – We are to walk with, fear, obey and serve Him.

   Deut. 13:4 (KJV)  Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep   his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto   him.

3. He Refined It!   (Refined means “freed from impurities”)
   1. Intimacy

      Heb. 13:4   Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but   fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

   2. Family -

      Gen. 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and   multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over   the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

4.  How Can I Fix It?
   1. Change your EXPECTATIONS for

      Your marriage

      Your spouse and

      Yourself

   2. Focus on fixing rather than defeating!

GET RID OF YOUR DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE AND BELIEVE IN GOD’S DEFINITION!
