Weddings

Marriage was not the idea of a couple, pastor, church, or government. It was lovingly designed by the Creator God (Genesis 2). He gets to define what it is. Marriage is actually a picture of God and His Church (Ephesians 5). Marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman for a lifetime. They become one flesh for fruitfulness. This is what Jesus taught…“Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:4-6

This is the only design for marriage set forth by God in all of Scripture. There is no other. Because of our devotion to God and His Word, and as stated in our church constitution article on marriage:

  • TRBC staff and contracted associates will only conduct Pre-marital Counseling for one man marrying one woman
  • TRBC pastors will only conduct weddings between one man and one woman
  • TRBC facilities and resources will only be used for a wedding between one man and one woman.

In order to use TRBC facilities and/or have a TRBC Pastor perform your wedding, we require that the couple complete Pre-marital Counseling either at our church or with another approved, Christian provider.

What is Marriage?

Marriage was not the idea of a couple, pastor, church, or government. It was lovingly designed by the Creator God [Genesis 2]. He gets to define what it is. Marriage is actually a picture of God and His Church [Ephesians 5]. Marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman for lifetime. They become one flesh for fruitfulness. This is what Jesus taught…

“Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:4-6

We want a Thomas Road Pastor to marry us. What do we need to do?
  • Apply – You and your fiancé complete the application so that we can get to know you better.
  • Interview – either by phone or in person with one of our pastors.
  • Counsel – We take marriage very seriously, and we are committed to helping you have the greatest success. Research has shown that couples that go through premarital counseling do much better in the early years of marriage. You will need to do this type of counseling with our team.

Based on our conversations with you and the schedule of our pastors we will be able to determine how we can assist you.

We are living together but we want to obey Jesus Christ to start our marriage. What do we need to know?

We celebrate this great step of obedience that you want to take with Jesus! Here is what he has to say about that in Scripture…

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Based on this it is important for you to commit to sexual purity before you get married. This means refraining from having sex with each other. Also, it is best to live apart for your testimonies sake until the marriage.

Please talk to us about how we can help you take these steps.

One or both of us have been divorced. This will be a remarriage. What do we need to know?

God hates the pain and damage that divorce causes. But he is also forgiving, and offers safety for spouses who have been abused.

We will talk through Scripture with you when we meet to see what God has to say about your situation.

If you have been recently divorced, we want to guide you towards our DivorceCare program at TRBC.

We want to be married in the TRBC facility.

After your interview, you will be referred to our Wedding Coordinator.
